A large part of what a $14 beginner course delivers is vocabulary — what a wallet is, what minting means, what gas is, why any of this needs a blockchain. You can get that here in about twenty minutes:

Then buy a course if you want structure, exercises and someone walking you through it. That is a genuinely good reason. "Because I do not know where to start" is a problem the free material already solves.

What "beginner" should mean

A beginner NFT course should get you to four things:

  1. Understanding what you are buying. Including, importantly, what you are not buying — a point most courses handle badly.
  2. A wallet set up safely. Seed phrase written down on paper, stored somewhere sensible, never typed into a website.
  3. One transaction completed. Ideally a cheap mint on a layer 2, not a mainnet purchase.
  4. Working scam recognition. The difference between a real mint link and a fake one, and why you never sign a transaction you do not understand.

If a course's syllabus skips the last one, it is incomplete regardless of its rating. That is the module that protects your money.

Two things to be sceptical about

Price predictions and "which collections to buy". Nobody teaching a $14 course has a reliable edge on this, and material written during the 2021 peak has aged badly — the market is a fraction of that size now.

"Passive income from NFTs". Royalties are not reliably enforced any more, and most collections generate no secondary volume at all. If a syllabus leans on this, weight the rest of it accordingly.

Common questions

Do I need any crypto experience to start?
No. Every course here assumes you have never owned a wallet. What helps far more than prior experience is spending twenty minutes understanding wallets and private keys first — our guide to what NFTs are covers that, free, before you spend anything.
How long until I actually understand this?
A focused three hours gets most people to the point of being able to explain what an NFT is, set up a wallet safely, and buy one without making an expensive mistake. Genuine comfort — recognising a scam, judging a collection, understanding gas — takes a few weeks of occasional use.
Do I need to buy an NFT to learn about them?
No, and you probably should not at first. If you want the hands-on experience, mint something of your own on a layer 2 like Polygon or Base for a fraction of a cent rather than buying someone else's work on Ethereum mainnet for hundreds of dollars.
Is a 2.5-hour course long enough?
For the fundamentals, yes. The subject is not enormous — it is wallets, token standards, marketplaces, gas and security. A tight three hours covers it. Longer courses add depth on creating, trading or promoting, which is useful only once you know which of those you want.
