Privacy policy

The short version

No accounts. No third-party advertising. No selling anything to anyone. Everything you type into the calculators stays in your browser. We use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages and links people use — that sets one cookie, and if you’re somewhere that requires us to ask first, we ask first and load nothing until you answer.

What this site actually is

A static site. Every page is a pre-built HTML file served from a content delivery network. There’s no application server, no database, and nowhere for your data to be stored even in principle.

The calculators

Every tool on this site — the profit calculator, the gas estimator, the royalty splitter, the tax estimator and the course quiz — runs entirely in your browser.

The numbers you enter are never transmitted anywhere. They aren’t logged, not stored and not seen by us. This isn’t a policy commitment we’re asking you to trust — there’s no server to send them to. You can verify it by opening your browser’s network tab while using any of the tools.

Analytics

This site uses Google Analytics 4. It tells us how many people visit, which pages they arrive on, roughly where in the world they’re, and which links and tools they use. We look at it to decide what to write next and which pages are worth improving.

Alongside the standard page view, we record a small set of our own events. This is the complete list — there’s nothing else:

• Affiliate link clicks. Which course was clicked, and which part of the page the link was in (a hero, a card, a quiz result). This is how we tell which recommendations are actually useful.
• Tool use. That a calculator was used, and the name of the field that was changed — for example "Gas to buy". The numbers you enter are never sent. That promise is kept in the code, not just in this paragraph: the analytics script reads the label next to an input and never reads the input’s value.
• Course finder filters. Which filters and sort order were applied, and how many results came back. If you type in the search box we record only that a search happened — never what you typed.
• Quiz results. Which course the quiz recommended, and how far through the questions people get before they stop.
• Outbound clicks. The domain of any external link you follow.

We don’t use advertising pixels or remarketing tags, we haven’t enabled Google Signals or ad personalisation, and we don’t upload or join this data to anything else. Google Analytics doesn’t give us your name, your email address or your IP address; IP addresses are discarded by Google before the data reaches us.

Asking permission, and where

If you’re visiting from the EEA, the UK or Switzerland, you get a banner asking whether we may count the visit, and nothing analytics-related loads until you answer — not the Google script, not a cookie, not a silent "anonymous" ping. Reject and we load none of it, then or later, and any analytics cookie already on your device is deleted. That’s a stricter setting than Google recommends; we prefer being able to state it plainly.

Everywhere else there’s no banner, because no law there requires one and a permission prompt nobody needs is just noise. If you would still rather not be counted, any browser setting or extension that blocks Google Analytics works, and nothing on this site depends on analytics loading.

To decide which of those you’re, the page asks Cloudflare — the network already serving you this page, which country the request came from, using an address on this domain. No third-party location service is involved, and the answer is a two-letter country code held for the length of your browsing session and nothing more. Your answer to the banner is stored in your browser, not on a server; clearing site data makes us ask again.

Cookies

Google Analytics sets a first-party cookie (named _ga, plus one starting _ga_) so that two page views from the same browser can be counted as one visit rather than two. It holds a randomly generated number. It isn’t shared with other sites and isn’t used for advertising.

That’s the only cookie this site sets, and where consent is required it isn’t set at all until you accept. Two other small items may be stored in your browser: your answer to the consent banner, and the country code described above. Neither is a cookie, neither is sent to us, and both stay on your device.

Affiliate links

When you click a course link, you’re taken to the platform’s site with a tracking parameter identifying us as the referrer. From that point you’re on their site and their privacy policy applies, not ours. They may set cookies to attribute a purchase.

We receive aggregate reporting from the affiliate network — numbers of clicks and conversions. We never receive your identity, your email address, or what you bought as an individual. The full disclosure is here.

Hosting

This site is hosted on Cloudflare’s network. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes connection data, IP address, user agent, requested URL, in order to serve the page and to protect against abuse. This is standard infrastructure logging and is governed by Cloudflare’s own privacy terms.

Your rights

Under regulations such as the GDPR and CCPA you’ve rights to access, correct and delete personal data held about you. We hold no accounts, no email list and no database of individuals, so in almost every case there’s nothing to retrieve. The one exception is the pseudonymous analytics identifier described above; if you want the data associated with it deleted, write to us and we will submit a deletion request to Google for it. Analytics data is retained for 14 months and then deleted automatically.

Children

This site isn’t directed at children under 13 and we knowingly collect no data from anyone.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top of this page changes with it. If we ever began collecting anything meaningful, which we have no plans to do, that would be stated here clearly rather than buried.
